Statement
I see such positive gains in the township in the last couple years through the efforts of staff and council and I would like to support the community for another 4 years. Our community has always been one of the most respected townships in Hastings County and I am thankful to be a part of it for so many years.
With our new council, I would continue supporting the changes that local residents have been asking for. I see the township becoming more efficient with the day-to-day operations and our staff fully supports the current and future changes. The path that council has set, is starting to present itself very well.
Focus areas in the next term:
Strategic Plan: This is needed for our fiscal responsibility to the taxpayer. As well, this identifies areas of growth and how we plan to support our community as we move forward.
Service Delivery: Bylaw reviews. Our Bylaws need to be reviewed and updated to reflect the expectations of our community today. We need to create effective bylaws that have systems in place that will allow an open and informed path to resolution
Fiscal responsibility by finding efficiency in how we deliver services/programs to our township.

Statement
My name is Jen Phillips and I feel honoured to be acclaimed to Tyendinaga Township Municipal Council. I live with my husband Mike, who grew up in the township, our daughters, Ellie (9) and Katie (7), and my mom Karen. I was born and raised in Belleville and have had the pleasure of living the township since 2010. Mike and I moved here shortly after we were married to start a family and raise our children in this wonderful community.
I pride myself on being approachable and for researching topics with the intent of seeing different perspectives. I am also keen to hear feedback about issues or myself. I encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns. My role is that of a Civil Servant and I will strive to fill that role with integrity and accountability.
Elected Experience
While my elected experience is limited to my 2018 Campaign, I am eager to take on the role of councillor. I look forward to learning the job, presenting ideas and listening to constituents to help grow our township while preserving its traditions.
Professional Experience
I spent over 15 years in the Food Manufacturing sector before leaving and eventually becoming an entrepreneur. During those 15+ years I performed roles in Production, Quality Control/Assurance, Human Resources, Logistics and Warehousing. I also worked on standardization, developing procedures, health & safety and continuous improvement. After leaving Food Manufacturing I was lucky to find very fulfilling work as a sub contractor. During that time, I proved I was a quick learner and resourceful in finding solutions. When the opportunity to purchase the company I was subcontracting for came up, Mike and I were able to find a way for me to take it on as my own. Since then, I have implemented several operational changes to streamline processes, improve efficiency and provide documentation and accountability.
Education
After graduating from Quinte Secondary in 2000 I went on to complete two-year programs in Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering simultaneously. I later returned to Loyalist College to complete an optional third year of the Chemical Engineering program.
Community Service
I am very proud of my Community Service record where my passions include recreation, education and family. I joined the Minor Baseball Association and the Canada Day Committee the summer after moving here (2011) and remain on both. I began in Minor Baseball as the Secretary of the Association and then transitioned to committee member and event volunteer when we had our children. When we returned to recreational activities, after pausing due to COVID-19, I was elected President and Treasurer and have served in those roles since. I have also taken great pleasure in coaching soccer when our girls were younger, playing and/or volunteering in the Adult Volleyball and Flag Football leagues as well as the annual Golf Tournament. Additionally, I currently sit on the executive of our children’s School Council at Tyendinaga Public School as Treasurer. A position I also held during the last school year.

Statement
My Platform:
– ADVOCATING FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
– EMPOWERING PARENTS
– EDUCATION NOT INDOCTRINATION
– EMPHASIZING CATHOLIC VALUES
– ACCOUNTABILITY, TRUST AND TRANSPARENCYWhen I moved to Belleville in the 1990s, I became a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church. As a family physician, I had the privilege of participating in patients’ healthcare needs from prenatal care to natural death. PAFE ( Parents as First Educators), CatholicConscience.org, and CLC (Campaign Life Coalition) have all endorsed my candidacy for school board trustee. My political experience includes being Chief Financial Officer for the Tim Durkin Campaign for Bay of Quinte MP in 2019. I believe that although Canada is the greatest country in the world, we need to avoid complacency because many of our freedoms, such as religious freedoms, are under threat. Our children need to be taught that we are all made in God’s image and have been bestowed a unique set of talents. We should all have equal opportunity to maximize our talents and strive to make the world a better place not only for us and our families but for society. We should have the resources to achieve success for all students yet many are not able to achieve their full potential because our children are not put first. Students need to be educated not indoctrinated by radical activists. As Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board Trustee, I promise to work diligently to advocate for Catholic education in order to allow all students to achieve their full potential in the various aspects of humanity – biological, psychological, social, and spiritual.

Community Service
I have supported The Quinte Humane Society, Gleaners Food Bank and Hospice Quinte over the years

I’m a Catholic wife of 32 years, and mother of 2 adult children. I recently retired after 33 years as a Speech Language Pathologist working with toddler to teenage children, with the last half of my career in school boards. I negotiated the first Transition-to-School Agreement between PSL, local school boards, Christian and private schools and the Community Care Access Centres to set up school support for speech/language needs for children starting school.
At the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, another colleague and I introduced a new service delivery model to support teachers in implementing speech/language recommendations to increase positive outcomes for students. The following biography has been provided by the candidate and posted verbatim with no changes by the Office of the Clerk. The views and opinions presented are of the candidate only and are not endorsed by the Township of Tyendinaga or the Returning Officer for the 2022 Municipal Election.
Statement
It has been my pleasure to serve as Southeast Hastings Trustee for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board since 2018, and I am happy to have been acclaimed to serve another term. This November, our Board will welcome eight new faces to the team and I am excited to join them at the table.
- Elected Experience – During my first term representing Tweed, Tyendinaga and Deseronto, I have served as Chair of the Board for two years and Vice Chair for one. During this time, the Board tackled the creation of a new Strategic Plan, focusing on equity and improvement, which will lead us into 2025. We also experienced a few changes to our Director of Education; former Director Sean Montieth led us through our successful transition to virtual schooling as a result of the pandemic while current Director of Education, Katherine MacIver, has ensured a smooth transition back to the traditional classroom setting. Most recently, the Board worked closely with Director MacIver to successfully review and revise the HPEDSB By-Laws.
- Other Professional Experience – I have 21 years experience covering local Municipality of Tweed and Township of Tyendinaga Council meetings in my work as a Reporter. This has giving me a great deal of insight into policy and process, and how to run effective meetings.
- Education – I am a former student within the Board, having attended Pinecrest Elementary, CML Snider and Prince Edward Collegiate Institute. Both of my children attended SH Connor, Tweed Hungerford Senior and Centre Hastings Secondary School, now renamed Central Hastings School. My broader educational background lies within the areas of Early Childhood Education, Social Services and Addiction Counselling.
- Community Service – I currently work with the elderly through Community Care for Central Hastings and have fundraised extensively for United Way and Atzin Mexico, a charity that facilitates education and income generation programming for impoverished women.
