2024 Solar Eclipse

Tyendinaga Township, get ready to witness the upcoming solar eclipse in the safest way possible!

On April 8th, 2024, starting at approximately 2:08 p.m., with a brief period of totality between 3:21 p.m. and 3:23 p.m., we’ll be treated to a celestial show as the moon passes in front of the sun! But remember, looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can be harmful to your eyes. That’s why it’s crucial to prioritize safety while enjoying this natural wonder!

Here are some tips to ensure you have a safe and unforgettable eclipse experience:

  • Wear Certified Eclipse Glasses: Protect your eyes with specialized eclipse glasses that meet international safety standards. These glasses block out harmful ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation. Look for ISO 12312-2 certified glasses to ensure your eyes stay safe.
  • No Naked Eye Viewing: Never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, including sunglasses or homemade filters. Certified solar glasses are 1000 times darker than regular sunglasses. Even during an eclipse, the sun’s rays can cause permanent damage to your eyesight.
  • Plan Your Viewing Location: Plan your viewing location in a safe, unobstructed area, close to your home.
  • Plan Ahead: Ensure you have taken care of any errands ahead of time (grocery shopping, etc.) to avoid potential traffic caused by an influx of visitors who may be coming to the area on April 8th.
